In a world of big budget movies more focussed on special effects and marketing gimmicks, Play On is a fresh breath of reality. Join our arrogant rugby star as he makes his journey to stardom, in his quest for big money. The movie Play On revolves around the struggles, helplessness, determination, and sacrifice of one man and his team of unsung weekend heroes.
The Scottish rugby star, Keir Kilgour, has high ambitions for himself. He wants to reach the top, make money and enjoy the limelight. But that is simply not how things are done in Scottish rugby. The players are not paid and the game is played for ideals rather than money. In fact, Scottish rugby held on to such non-profit ideals well into the 1990s. Keir, however, does not share the same principles. Things are more complicated because of the fact that he is the son of a celebrated rugby player, Finlay Kilgour, who is deeply entrenched in the old ways of doing things. The friction between the father’s and son’s principles are clearly giving off some sparks.
Amidst all of this, Keir ends up alienating his father completely and the entire Scottish rugby world with a single display of selfishness. Left with no options or future in the Scottish rugby, he heads off to Kansas City, in pursuit of stardom in American football. Once in Kansas, his dreams of the limelight are shattered in no time and he is left hopelessly looking for help. Unable to return home in the face of failure and face his father, Keir falls into the arms of Kansas City Wanderers, a team of “nobodies” in the world of football. Thus begins a slow journey of these amateurs, as they take small steps towards respect, all under the guidance of Keir.
Experience the journey of Keir, as he finds himself in the face of failure and despair. His newfound leadership opens his minds to new possibilities and soon he thinks of a way to show his father, Finlay, that both of them are not so different after all. Keir takes his football team to Scotland to show the team's play to his father. At this point, things begin to look good between the father and son. But there comes a time when a man has to make his choices and tread down a path of his own. Keir finds himself at that juncture where his dreams of stardom make a comeback. Will his dreams get the better of him or his love for his father will triumph?
